Art Appreciation for Kids is a lecture and activity driven workshop that aims to introduce the concepts of key modern art movements to young minds. Sessions are designed to engage students through application of art techniques as a means of appreciation, as well as exploration. No experience required!

 

Program Description

Introducing art to the young opens up their minds to different perspectives of understanding and appreciating visual concepts, and encourages them to see the significance of art to history and culture.

Art Appreciation for Kids is a weekly weekend workshop that starts with a brief art movement lecture followed by a hands-on activity where students are guided by a live demo to learn and explore art through different techniques and applications each week. No prior art experience required, and the materials list will be provided before the start of the workshop period.

Nemcy Cruz

Teacher Nemcy is a graduate of University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts and College of Education. Since the late 90s, she has participated in various exhibits. For more than half a decade, she has taught various grade levels raging from primary to junior high school and soon, to senior high school students. Prior to discovering the “gift” to teach, she worked as an in-house animator and graphic designer in a children’s TV show. Later on, she moved to publication—from a teen fashion magazine to a children’s book publishing house both to cater their needs in prints and marketing.

What is the flow of a typical session?

A short lecture is conducted to set the context leading up to the main learning activity, which is the art making and exploration that is done live with demonstration.

Will there be any assignments to be given?

No assignments will be given, all activities are isolated to the meeting hours. Students may continue working on their artworks after class hours.

Does this class have a manual?

None. Instructions will be given during sessions.

Watercolor or any thick paper
