 Program Description

Beginning Reading is a 3-month online program for kids age 4 to 6. It is designed to help your child become a confident and independent reader via oral drills and writing exercises, storytelling, online games, worksheets, and other activities. Lessons include consonant blends, short vowel sounds, sight words, and long vowel sounds. Learning is made more fun with a small group class of kids the same age. Morning or afternoon classes are available.

This program has 2 levels (see our Course Outline below). Our teacher will conduct a pre-assessment prior to your child’s enrolment to ensure that your child will be placed in the appropriate level. The assessment is held via Google Meet and is for about 30 - 45 minutes.

Course Outline

Beginning Reading A

Does your child know the letter names and sounds but is having difficulty blending them? At the end of this workshop, your child will be able to confidently read 3-letter words like cat, hat and sit. They will also be able to easily recognize high-frequency words often used in sentences like “the,” “you" and “said” - words that are pronounced differently than the way they are spelled. This is an excellent program for kids in pre-kinder or kinder.

Beginning Reading B

Is your child now ready to progress to more advanced words with long vowel sounds, like cake, bike and tube? Reading a storybook with ending consonant blends like camp, king and mask, as well as high-frequency words such as “about” and “around” will be easy after your child has completed this workshop. Ideal for students in kinder or about to enter Grade 1 next school year.
